So, you want to build a spa business? You’re in the right place. However, It’s important to know that there is a big difference between a spa business, a successful spa business and a successful & sustainable one. The difference starts with 6 pillars.


Pillar #1  Steady Stream of New Clients


This might be by means of Facebook ads, networking events, referrals or otherwise. When you are just getting started these can seem like a slow process. However, with consistency you will start to see a snowball that builds faster over time.


Pillar #2  Retain Clients


Client retention is everything. This will be your key to success in your spa business. This isn’t to say that you will never lose some clients. They might move away or simply no longer be the right fit. If you are a solo massage therapist, you can’t take that personally. Other than that, remember some clients just need an invitation back in.  When you focus on retaining your clients, everything else will fall into place. 


Pillar #3 Robust Referrals


You absolutely need a system of obtaining referrals and testimonials which are like public referrals. The referral system has to make it easy on your clients. Reviews go hand in hand with referrals and can be even more important. People aren’t buying anything today without good reviews. And your reveiws need to be current. Pillar #5 Standard Operating Procedures

A successful spa business owner will keep account of all of their transactions. Ramona teaches to always keep your receipts. Why? Because you will need these receipts when dealing with credit card companies and when doing your taxes. That’s right if you are in business long enough, you are going to be audited at least once. It’s just a given. If you have a system for keeping track of the financials, this will be a no briggie situation. Not quite so if not.


Standard Operating procedures are also important when making your first hires. If you have already written up your SOPs, Bringing on a new employee will be so much easier on you and the employee. 


Pillar #6 Expanding and Growing

This last pillar in growing to become a successful and sustainable spa business can’t be done without pillars 1-5. Expanding may mean different things depending on where you are in your business. It may mean adding a treatment room or hiring for the front desk. You might grow by investing in better products or better equipment. 


Another area of growth is personal growth. Personal growth is essential to success. This may show itself by investing in better education, implementing core values or in making more charitable donations. Whatever form this takes, please remember to keep personal growth a priority as your business grows.
